As a part of development diplomacy, the Embassy of Nepal in Brussels is proactively participating in various Tourism Fairs in Belgium and Netherlands encouraging more and more tourists to visit Nepal. In this course, the Embassy of Nepal participated in the 61st edition of Brussels Holiday Fair organized by FISA International at Brussels held on 07-10 February 2019.

The Fair is the largest tourism event in Belgium and is deemed to be unique in terms of an extensive face to face communication platform. This is an excellent opportunity for the visitors to meet with national government and private travel representatives and learn about a wide array of holiday destinations. 108,000 people visited the fair last year and this year more visitors were reportedly visited the Fair in order to observe and experience a ‘global show’ of culture, music, art and food.

In the Fair, the Nepali stall had become one of the major attractions to the visitors featuring erection of a Buddha Stupa and a Pagoda Temple, continuous video display with French and Dutch subtitle and well visible slogans at the top. The Tourism promotional materials including banners, placards, posters and flyers were being displayed and distributed at the stall. An arrangement was made to provide information on Nepal and its rich tourism products in English, Dutch and French languages. Nepali cultural performances performed by the local Nepali artists became a central attraction in the Fair. The Fair is, indeed, an important event for showcasing Nepal’s rich nature, adventure, culture, arts and crafts as well as traditions to a broad public. The Fair provided an opportunity to give more publicity about Nepal and its rich cultural, natural and adventurous tourism potentials as EuroMagh, local TV/radio took exclusive interview with His Excellency the Ambassador.

The Embassy currently participated in the ‘Asia Travel Event’ on 20 January 2019 in Ghent for the first time organized by JOKER, one of the biggest travel agencies in Belgium. Mainly, the travel agencies organizing tours in different Asian Countries participated in the event. During the Fair, rich and abundance natural, cultural and adventurous tourism promotional materials were displayed and distributed and information about Nepal was provided. In addition, excellent power point presentation on Nepal having experiences of visitors, and information regarding Nepal’s socio-economic, and cultural aspects was appreciative.

Similarly, the Embassy also participated in the 41th edition of the Antwerp Expo, an important holiday fair organized by VakantiensalonAntwerpen from 24-27 January 2019 in Antwerpen, second biggest city of Belgium. It was a great opportunity for the exhibitors to offer more activities, presentations, workshops and special surprises. This was the second time Nepal participated the Expo. A number of visitors visited the Embassy’s stall. We arranged to display and distribute tourism promotional materials including banners, placards, posters and flyers. On the occasion, cultural dances were presented by local Nepali artists. The Nepali and various Belgians Travel Agencies were providing a travel and tour package with full range of information. It was realized that more travel agencies participating in the fair have been selling their package to Nepal indicating growing interests of people to visit Nepal. More than 79,000 visitors are reportedly visited the Expo (more than 8 percentage of the last year).

The Embassy coordinated closely with Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Belgium, Belgium-Nepal Friendship Association (BNFA), Nepali entrepreneurs, artists, media persons, social organizations and Nepali Community Organizations based in Belgium for the broader and effective participation in the Fairs.
