H.E.Ms. Sewa Lamsal assumed Ambassadorial assignment from 18 February 2025. Prior to this, she served as the first female Foreign Secretary of Nepal at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Dec 2023-2024.
Earlier, she was Head of United Nations, International Organizations, and International Law Division and Europe and America Division, among others. She was also Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from October 2020- Dec 2023.
Ms. Lamsal served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Nepal to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan with concurrent accreditation to the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan from September 2016-2020.
Prior to that, she served as Charge d’ Affairs, a. i./ Minister Plenipotentiary and Deputy Permanent Representative at Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations in New York from May 2012 to June 2016. She served as Chair to the 52nd and 53rd Sessions of the Commission for Social Development, Chair of the Global Coordination Bureau of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in 2012, Vice-chair and Bureau Member of LLDCs and LDCs and Member of UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board for the Asia and Pacific Group, among others.
While in the Headquarters, she worked as Joint-Secretary and Head of Northeast Asia, South-East Asia and the Pacific Division and Multilateral Economic Affairs Division. Ms. Lamsal also worked as Under Secretary in the Department of Passports and the United Nations, International Organizations, and International Law Division in the Ministry. She led Nepali delegation to various multilateral, regional and bilateral meetings and conferences.
A civil servant since June 1998, Ms. Lamsal, joined Foreign Service in May 2010. Prior to joining Foreign Service of Nepal, she worked in the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens, Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration and Election Commission, Nepal.
She holds an M. Phil Degree in Social Change from Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Tribhuvan University.
Born in Dingla, a remote village in Bhojpur district, she has three daughters and a grandson.
