Her Excellency Ms. Sewa Lamsal, Ambassador of Nepal to the BENELUX Countries, and Head of Mission to the EU, paid a courtesy call on Ms. Belen Martinez Carbonell, Secretary-General at European External Action Service (EEAS) this afternoon. During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on mutual interests. They underlined the cordial relationship between Nepal and the European Union, highlighting shared values and a long-standing partnership.
Ambassador Lamsal briefed on Nepal’s recent political development, including recent elections, subsequent formation of new government, and the priorities of the government, including 100-points governance reform agenda and its commitments to improve governance and enhance transparency, accountability, and institutional efficiency, among others.
Secretary-General Carbonell commended the inclusive nature of the new government, specifically noting the representation of gender and disadvantaged communities in leadership roles. She thanked Nepal for its continuous support for the EU’s positions in international arenas, such as the United Nations.
Furthermore, the two sides touched upon some issues, including Nepal’s graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status, efforts carried out towards delisting the country from the FATF grey list, updates on Nepal’s peace process, and efforts to lift the EU’s air space ban on Nepali airlines, among others. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening diplomatic engagement and future collaborations.
Secretary-General was accompanied by Mr. Joachim Knodt and Mr. Roshan Lyman from EEAS. Ambassador Lamsal was accompanied by Ms. Richa Bhattarai and Ms.Aayusha Khanal from the Embassy. The meeting was held in a friendly and cordial ambience.
